888WEBTODAY.COM (8-8-10)--A man died during the World Sauna Championship in Heinola, Finland after sustaining severe burns in the end phase of the event that required long term exposure to 230 degree temperatures (110 Celsius). Vladimir Ladyzhenskiy (pictured on the left) was pronounced dead on August 7, 2010 after passing out from the 230 degree temperatures. Finland's Timo Kaukonen won the event. Not a big surpise since he was the reigning champ. Almost 1,000 spectators watched as medical workers attended to both men who were badly burned. Timo Kaukonen is said to be in stable condition and probably willing to participate...

The annual World Sauna Championships in Finland has ended in tragedy with the death of one of the finalists, the organisers said. Russian finalist Vladimir Ladyzhensky and Finnish rival Timo Kaukonen were both taken to hospital after collapsing and Mr Ladyzhensky later died. Its chief organiser, Ossi Arvela, said all the rules of the event had been followed. He said in a statement that the organisers were grief stricken at the events. The event, which has been running since 1999, requires participants to withstand 110C for as long as possible.
